چکیده

Extensive construction work at the canal cutting of Ludwigskanal near Dörlbach, Franconian Alb, provided opportunity to re-investigate a scientific-historical and biostratigraphically important reference section South-German Toarcian. The 16 m thick section, described bed by with respect lithology macrofossils, starts within Upper Pliensbachian Amaltheenton Formation, covers Toarcian Posidonienschiefer Jurensismergel ends in basal parts Opalinuston Formation. Carbonate contents are high successively decline Opalinuston. carbonate associated comparatively low organic carbon contents. However, normalized silicate fraction similarily if compared other regions Germany. Only persistence levels into middle differs from those most central Europe. Ammonite biostratigraphy indicates thickness >9 for Pliensbachian, 1.15–1.20 Lower Toarcian, 5.04 >0.5 Aalenian. Despite sediment thickness, all ammonite zones almost subzones present, except major Tenuicostatum Zone Fallaciosum Subzone. On basis discontinuities, condensed beds, correlations neighbouring sections Southern Germany, sequence stratigraphic interpretation is proposed this region: (i) Formation corresponds one 3 rd order T-R sequence, top Hawskerense Subzone fucoid Variabilis Subzone, maximum flooding surface Falciferum Zone. (ii) exhibits two sequences: first ranges Illustris (i.e., Intra-Variabilis-Discontinuity) Thouarsense Zone, “belemnite battlefield” reflects transgressive “ravinement surface” Sequence, not regression its basis. second extents erosive Dispansum Aalensis Pseudoradiosa-Aalensis boundary. Finally, new Torulosum Transgressive system tracts these sequences commonly phosphoritic, while some regressive show pyrite preservation ammonites. surfaces reflect significant submarine erosion relief formation seawater currents, effect less pronounced boundary Jurensismergel-Opalinuston Formation).

Sequence stratigraphy and depositional environment of the Oligocene deposits at Firozabad section, southwest of Iran based on microfacies analysis

The Asmari Formation was deposited in the foreland basin of southwest Iran (Zagros Basin). Carbonate sequences of the Asmari Formation consist mainly of large benthic foraminifera along with other skeletal and non-skeletal components. Three assemblage zones have been recognized by distribution of these large foraminifera in the study area that indicate Oligocene age (Rupelian-Chattian). Absence...

Depositional History and Sequence Stratigraphy of the Tirgan Formation (Barremian – Aptian) in the Zavin section, NE Iran

The Tirgan Formation (Barremian – Aptian) is exposed in the Kopet Dagh in northeast Iran. One stratigraphic section in Zavin was measured with a thickness of 110 meters. This Formation in section consists of three parts (including lower carbonate, limy shale – marl and upper carbonate rocks). Based on the study of 94 thin sections, 10 carbonate and 2 siliciclastic lithofacies have been identifi...

Sequence Stratigraphy

Sequence stratigraphy is the study of sediments and sedimentary rocks in terms of repetitively arranged facies and associated stratal geometry (Vail 1987; Van Wagoner et al 1988, 1990; Christie-Blick 1991). It is a technique that can be traced back to the work of Sloss et al (1949), Sloss (1950, 1963), and Wheeler (1958) on interregional unconformities of the North American craton, but it becam...

Facies, sedimentary environments and sequence stratigraphy of Cretaceous deposits in the northwest of Azerbaijan, Iran

The Cretaceous deposits in Morakan, located in the northeast of Khoy, a town in western Azerbaijan province, Iran, are primarily made up of carbonate rocks. These deposits, which are of 717 meters thick, lie on the clastic facies of Jurassic and are covered with beneath the pelagic beds of the Upper Cretaceous. To investigate the facies, sedimentary environment and sequential stratigraphy of th...
